The GENOVATE Community consist of seven GENOVATE partner institutions; the GENOVATE International Advisory Board; key strategic collaborators and stakeholders and the general public. It is a mechanism designed to facilitate meaningful knowledge exchange across the community at local, national and international levels within each of the partner institutions’ countries, across Europe and globally.

Presentation of GENOVATE at the Stockholm-Vaxholm Soroptimist Club meeting

The chair of the meeting introducing Paula Wennberg, LTU who was invited to talk about gender equality at yesterday’s Soroptimist club meeting in Stockholm. 25 club members and guests attended this monthly event and discussed gender equality and diversity issues in academia and society. 

-Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls. The network of around 80,000 club members in 132 countries and territories works at a local, national and international level to educate, empower and enable opportunities for women and girls.


Gender mainstreaming of all Swedish universities

The Swedish government is investing 2,5 million euros in making the country’s higher education sector gender equal. Thirty-three universities and university colleges will receive gender mainstreaming support from the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research. The four-year programme was officially launched in Stockholm on the 16th of April.

Ylva Fältholm and Paula Wennberg were invited to an expert dialogue on February 9, 2016 in Stockholm organised by the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research to discuss which challenges the programme should focus on when mainstreaming gender in the Swedish Higher Education.

What are the priorities of the Commission in terms of gender equality?

In December 2015 the Commission published the "Strategic engagement for gender equality 2016-2019"http://ec.europa.eu/justice/gender-equality/files/documents/151203_strategic_engagement_en.pdfIt represents the work programme for gender equality policy during this Commission's mandate.

The Strategic engagement focuses on the following five priority areas:

  • Increasing female labour market participation and equal economic independence;
  • Reducing the gender pay, earnings and pension gaps and thus fighting poverty among women;
  • Promoting equality between women and men in decision-making;
  • Combating gender-based violence; protecting and supporting victims;
  • Promoting gender equality and women's rights across the world.
