The GENOVATE Community consist of seven GENOVATE partner institutions; the GENOVATE International Advisory Board; key strategic collaborators and stakeholders and the general public. It is a mechanism designed to facilitate meaningful knowledge exchange across the community at local, national and international levels within each of the partner institutions’ countries, across Europe and globally.

The IX Convention of the Neapolitan Women in Science Association was held on the 6yth of May at Palazzo Gravina, which is home to the Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II” (UNINA) Department of Architecture. The event has addressed a variety of themes, such as education rigths, knowledge and democracy, with emphasis on the gender dimension in university and research. This event follows on the heels of similar initiatives on education rights held by UNINA in March 2016 together with other local public universities, such as the Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli (SUN), and other research institutes.

Dr. Gaetano Manfredi, UNINA Rector, gave the opening remarks, together with Dr. Rosanna Cioffi, SUN vice-Rector, with Dr. Giovanni La Rana, Director of INFN-sezione Napoli (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare = National Institute of Nuclear Physics – Neaples branch), and with Dr. Daniela Corda, Director of IBP-CNR (Istituto Nazionale di Biochimica delle Proteine - Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche Nazionale (= Institute of Protein Biochemistry Institutes of the National Research Council).

 

Dr. Daniela Corda also participated as a mentor in the GENOVATE Pilot Mentoring Program.

 

The UNINA-GENOVATE team - Dr. Ofelia Pisanti (UNINA-GENOVATE National Scientific Coordinator) in particular - has significantly contributed to the success of the event.

Dr. Antonella Liccardo presented on gender biases and trends in undergraduate students recruitment and academic standing at UNINA.

 

Dr. Ilenia Picardi presented on gender and research evaluation standards.

 

Dr. Maria Rosaria Masullo (GENOVATE IAB member and mentor of Pilot Mentoring Program) presented the presence of women at the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) and in Italian research institutes.

 

Dr. Emma Buondonno, who participated as a mentor in the GENOVATE Pilot Mentoring Program, presented on education rights at UNINA.

 

The Convention was well attended.
